Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman returns to Atalanta camp after Inter Milan move collapses
Nigeria international Ademola Lookman has returned to Bergamo and is set to train at Atalanta’s Zingonia facility following the collapse of a potential move to Inter Milan.
The former Everton and Fulham forward had been heavily linked with a summer transfer to the Nerazzurri, but reports on Monday confirmed that Inter have withdrawn their interest.
Inter’s offer of €45 million, including bonuses, was previously rejected by Atalanta, and the Italian club appears unlikely to receive an improved bid.
The initial rejection prompted Lookman to submit a formal transfer request and absent himself from Atalanta training, opting instead to train individually in the United Kingdom.
The forward also released a statement accusing Atalanta of failing to honor promises and treating him poorly “as a human being and professional footballer.”
Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi later clarified that the club had agreed to sanction Lookman’s departure this summer, but only for “big” clubs outside Serie A—a condition that complicated negotiations with Inter.
With less than a week remaining before the start of the 2025-26 Serie A season, Lookman has now returned to Atalanta, facing the challenge of reintegrating into the squad.
Atalanta open their league campaign against newly promoted Pisa on Sunday evening, with kickoff scheduled for 19:45 GMT. It remains uncertain whether the African Footballer of the Year will feature in the starting lineup.
