Wolverhampton target Algeria’s Jaouen Hadjam as potential replacement for Aït-Nouri
Wolverhampton Wanderers are eyeing Algerian international Jaouen Hadjam as a possible replacement for Rayan Aït-Nouri, who recently secured a move to Manchester City.
The Premier League side are reportedly advancing their interest in Hadjam following Aït-Nouri’s departure, with club officials viewing the 22-year-old left-back as a natural successor.
Currently contracted to Young Boys in Switzerland, Hadjam has emerged as one of the most sought-after defenders in the summer transfer window.
After a standout season in the Swiss Super League, Hadjam was named the division’s best left-back. He made 47 appearances across all competitions, including the UEFA Champions League, contributing two goals and three assists.
His consistent performances and attacking flair have drawn interest from a number of European clubs.
According to reports from journalist Sacha Tavolieri and Sky Sport, the Algerian defender has made it clear he is ready to take the next step in his career.
Despite previous interest from Inter Milan during the winter window, Hadjam appears set to leave the Swiss champions in search of top-tier football elsewhere.
FC Augsburg (Germany), Torino (Italy), and Sevilla (Spain) have all been linked with the player. However, financial constraints at Sevilla and other priorities at Torino have left Wolves in a favourable position to secure his signature.
Sources suggest Wolverhampton are currently the only club willing and able to meet Young Boys’ €7 million valuation.
Hadjam’s profile mirrors that of Aït-Nouri in many respects — energetic, technically gifted, and tactically disciplined — making him a compelling fit for the role vacated by his fellow Algerian.
The potential move would not only maintain Wolves’ tradition of investing in North African talent but also provide continuity on the left flank.
The Molineux-based club are reportedly serious about pushing through a deal and are keen to finalise terms in the coming weeks. With Hadjam under contract at Young Boys until 2028, negotiations are expected to focus on meeting the Swiss side’s financial requirements while ensuring the player’s personal ambitions align with the club’s long-term vision.
For Hadjam, the opportunity to join the Premier League is seen as an ideal next step. The defender is believed to be enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Wolves and competing in one of the world’s most demanding leagues.
While he has previously expressed admiration for Paris Saint-Germain, his immediate focus appears to be on securing a move that offers regular playing time and further exposure on the European stage.
Wolverhampton’s pursuit of Hadjam underscores the club’s commitment to identifying young, high-potential talent capable of thriving in the Premier League.
With Aït-Nouri setting a strong precedent during his time at the club, Wolves are hoping Hadjam can follow a similar path and become an integral part of their squad.
Negotiations are ongoing, and while interest from other clubs remains, Wolverhampton are currently leading the race for Hadjam’s signature.
