The Black Maidens of Ghana have been crowned champions of the inaugural WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Cup.

The tournament was held in Ghana at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

The final on Sunday played between Ghana and Nigeria provided an exciting showdown between the two rival nations.

For the Ghana U17 Women’s national team, this was an opportunity to secure victory to complete a historic host and win.

Nigeria’s U17 national team went into the game determined to upset the host nation to take the trophy home.

In the exciting contest that ensued between the two sides, the Black Maidens of Ghana scored after just 14 minutes through Gertrude Amoafo to take the lead.

Just five minutes later, Priscilla Mensah added a second to double the lead for the host nation.

Unfortunately, Ghana’s side could not hold on as Nigeria’s Flamingos crawled into the game and scored twice to force the match to end in a 2-2 draw.

Ghana excelled in the penalty shootout, winning 5-4 to complete the host and win agenda.

The victory means the Black Maidens are the first side to be crowned Champions of the WAFU Zone B U17 Girls Cup.
