Zamalek SC is facing an urgent task to fill their vacant coaching position after José Gomez’s sudden departure on December 11.
As the Egyptian club looks to quickly secure a new leader, former players and Egyptian internationals Ahmed Eid Abdel Malek and Mahmoud Fathallah have emerged as strong candidates.
Mahmoud Fathallah, 42, a former defender with the Egyptian national team from 2005 to 2013, has an impressive career, including 52 caps and two goals for his country. A legend at Zamalek, he played for the club between 2007 and 2014, making 204 appearances and netting 28 goals. On the other hand, Ahmed Eid Abdel Malek, also a former Egyptian international, is known for his time as a midfielder with 52 caps and 10 goals.
While both candidates offer considerable experience, Zamalek SC’s leadership is reportedly leaning towards hiring a foreign coach, despite the compelling profiles of these local legends. The future of the White Knights could hinge on this decisive appointment.
