Coventry consider move for Chelsea’s dual-national defender Josh Acheampong

England and Ghana defender Josh Acheampong is the subject of a rumoured move from Chelsea to Coventry. The 20-year-old right-back remains contracted to Chelsea until 30 June 2029, with no transfer agreement reported.

Acheampong has made 22 Premier League appearances for Chelsea and scored once. He has also played in the Champions League, Conference League, FA Cup and EFL Cup, while featuring for the club in the 2025 Club World Cup.

The London-born defender moved into Chelsea’s senior set-up from the club’s under-21 side in December 2024, having progressed through the academy. He had previously stepped up from Chelsea’s under-18 team to the under-21s at the start of the 2024-25 season.

Acheampong was part of Chelsea’s squad that won the Conference League in 2024-25 and the Club World Cup in 2025. He also scored in the FA Cup during the 2025-26 campaign, when Chelsea finished runners-up.

Chelsea’s long-term commitment is reflected in Acheampong’s current deal and a listed market value of €25m. Any move to Coventry would therefore require the clubs to reach an agreement over the defender’s transfer, although the rumour does not include a fee or probability of completion.

Acheampong currently remains a Chelsea player, with his contract running through to June 2029.
