Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has been elected as the First Vice President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) B zone.
The election took place on Friday in Niamey, Niger Republic, during this year’s CAF African Schools Football Championship, which is also serving as the WAFU B qualifying tournament.
Gusau’s election marks a significant step in his leadership journey within African football.
In addition to Gusau’s appointment, Kurt Edwin-Simeon Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association, was chosen as the President of the WAFU B zone, while Oumarou Sawadogo, the President of the Burkinabe Football Federation, was elected as the Second Vice President.
The WAFU B zone, which is one of the regional divisions of the West African Football Union, comprises seven nations: Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Côte d’Ivoire.
This zone plays a crucial role in coordinating football activities and competitions across West Africa, with a particular focus on fostering the growth of the sport in the region.
Gusau, who assumed the presidency of the NFF in September 2022, has extensive experience in African football governance.
His career includes serving on the Organizing Committee for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), as well as holding prominent security roles with both FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF). His election as the First Vice President of WAFU B underscores his growing influence within continental football circles.
The leadership reshuffle within WAFU B reflects a renewed commitment to strengthening football governance and collaboration among West African nations, further enhancing the development of the sport across the region.
