During the General Assembly meeting of the International Swimming Federation held today, Saturday, with the attendance of 46 countries on the sidelines of the ongoing African Championship in Angola, Engineer Yasser Idris, President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, secured two new positions.
The General Assembly of the International Swimming Federation approved the election of Engineer Yasser Idris as the first deputy to the President of the African Swimming Union, as well as his nomination by the General Assembly of the African Union as a member of the International Federation for the next term.
The International Federation’s membership system relies on selecting five members without elections, and three others through elections.
Idris Secures Vice President Position of the Federation Yasser Idris had previously received endorsement for the position of Vice President of the African Union, representing the North African region.
There are four deputies to the President of the International Federation, with one person selected among them to become the first vice president of the African Union.
Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, made a phone call to Engineer Yasser Idris to congratulate him on his new position in the International Swimming Federation, wishing him success and expressing hope that he will work in a manner befitting Egypt’s international stature in sports.
The Minister of Sports also congratulated the President of the Olympic Committee on the achievements of the Egyptian swimming team in the African Championship in Angola.
The team has so far secured 37 medals, including 12 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze. The competitions continue until next Monday, and therefore the number of medals is expected to increase.
