Hamza Mendyl joins Volos FC in Greece

Hamza Mendyl has continued his European journey by signing with Volos FC in Greece, extending his stay in the country after a spell with Aris Salonique.

The 28-year-old left the Thessaloniki club this summer after 26 matches and 1,916 minutes, and he has now joined Volos on a free transfer for the 2026-27 season.

Volos is a young club, founded in 2017, but it has already established itself in Greece’s top flight since 2019. For Mendyl, the move offers another chance to rebuild momentum and find stability after several years of changes across Europe.

The left-back first arrived at Lille in 2016 after being developed at Wydad Casablanca and the Mohammed VI Academy. He made enough of an impression in Lille’s reserve and first teams to earn a move to Schalke 04 in 2018 for a fee reported at 6 million euros.

His spell in Germany was difficult, and he later went on loan to Dijon and Gaziantep before signing with OH Leuven. Belgium proved to be his most consistent stop so far, with 71 appearances between 2022 and 2025. Nearly a decade after leaving the LOSC, Mendyl is still building his career with persistence and patience.
