Zamalek have expressed deep appreciation to Algerian side USM Alger for the warm hospitality shown to the club in the CAF Confederation Cup first leg clash in Algeria.
The Egyptian giants fell short to USM Alger deep into stoppage time in the highly competitive clash held at the 5th July Stadium.
Despite the defeat, the board of directors of Zamalek, led by president Hussein Labib, has expressed appreciation to USM Alger for the warm reception to their delegation throughout their stay in Algiers.
“The board of directors of Zamalek Club, headed by Captain Hussein Labib, extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the brotherly Algerian club, USM Alger, for the warm welcome and generous hospitality that the first football team delegation received during its stay in Algeria,” part of the statement read.
Zamalek also commended the sportsmanship displayed by the Algerian fans, emphasizing the strong historical relationship between the Egyptian and Algerian people.
“The club expresses its great appreciation to the fans of USM Alger and the Algerian supporters for their sportsmanship and warm welcome, which reflects the depth of the brotherly and historical relations that unite the Egyptian and Algerian peoples,” the statement added.
The Cairo-based club further extended special thanks to Egypt’s ambassador to Algeria, Abdel Latif Al-Layeh, for his continuous support and efforts in ensuring the comfort of the delegation during the trip.
Zamalek also confirmed that they are preparing to welcome the USM Alger delegation in Cairo with the same level of hospitality ahead of the decisive second-leg encounter.
The White Knights are set to host the Algerian outfit on Saturday night at the iconic Cairo International Stadium in the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final.
Zamalek head into the crucial clash needing a comeback after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat in the first leg at the 5 July Stadium.
To lift the Confederation Cup trophy for the third time in their history, the Egyptian side must defeat USM Alger by at least a two-goal margin in front of their home supporters.
The encounter is expected to attract huge attention across the African continent as both clubs battle for continental glory in one of the season’s biggest fixtures.
