Andrew Omobamidele joins Anderlecht on loan from Strasbourg

Irish-Nigerian centre-back Andrew Omobamidele has left Strasbourg on a season-long loan to Belgian side Anderlecht, the French club confirmed on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old defender, who started both of Strasbourg’s opening Ligue 1 matches, becomes the 24th player to depart the Racing this summer as the club reshapes its squad.

Omobamidele’s exit appears linked to the decision to retain fellow defender Ismael Doukoure in the Alsace-based side’s lineup. Despite featuring prominently at the start of the campaign, the Republic of Ireland international has been deemed surplus to requirements as Strasbourg finalised their defensive options ahead of the transfer deadline.

The move follows Strasbourg’s earlier announcement of Ben Chilwell’s departure to Crystal Palace, underlining a busy window of outgoing transfers for the Ligue 1 outfit. Omobamidele now heads to Brussels seeking regular playing time and a chance to rebuild momentum in the Belgian Pro League.
