World Cup 2026: Colombia coach says luck may decide Round of 32 clash against Ghana
Colombia head coach Nestor Lorenzo believes his side will need more than just good football to overcome Ghana in their Round of 32 meeting at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The South American side will face the Black Stars on Saturday with a place in the Round of 16 at stake in what is expected to be one of the most closely contested matches of the knockout stage.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Lorenzo admitted uncertainty over how Ghana could approach the game tactically and suggested fine margins may determine the outcome.
“I don’t know if Ghana will present a low block. Maybe they want to surprise us or come out and attack with everything.”
Ghana viewed as dangerous opponent
The Colombia coach acknowledged the competitiveness of the tournament and stressed that quality alone may not guarantee victory.
“The feeling is that the competition is incredibly even and that it is there for anyone to win. Besides playing well, you need that little bit of effectiveness and luck,” Lorenzo said in his pre-match interview.
Ghana reached the knockout stage after an impressive group campaign and will carry the hopes of many African supporters into the clash.
The Black Stars are aiming to continue their strong World Cup history and secure another memorable result against South American opposition.
High stakes in Round of 32 encounter
The match between Colombia and Ghana is scheduled for Saturday, 4 July, with kick-off set for 01:30 GMT.
