Senegal midfielder Momo Diop joins Knoxville to strengthen USL1 squad

Senegal midfielder Momo Diop has joined Knoxville, completing a move to the United States club after a spell without a club. The 25-year-old midfielder’s transfer was completed on 1 September 2026, with his contract running until 30 November.

Diop moves to Knoxville after most recently being registered with Thundering Herd. He left the club on 1 August, having returned from a loan spell with Asheville City at the end of July.

The midfielder spent part of the 2025-26 season on loan at Asheville City, joining the club from Thundering Herd on 1 May. His temporary spell ended on 31 July, after which he returned to Thundering Herd before departing the club the following day.

Diop had initially joined Thundering Herd from Rider Broncs on 1 August 2025. Before that move, he had spent time with Lubbock, also on loan from Rider Broncs, during the 2024-25 season.

His arrival gives Knoxville another midfield option as the club competes in USL1. Diop’s recent competitive appearance came in the 2026 USL League Two Playoffs, where he played once and completed 90 minutes. He did not score or provide an assist in that appearance.

The move also marks the latest stage of a career that has included spells across several American clubs. Diop’s previous transfers have involved both permanent changes and loan moves, including his switch from Rider Broncs to Thundering Herd and his temporary move to Asheville City.

Knoxville’s new signing is listed as a midfielder and holds Senegalese nationality. He joins the club at the age of 25, with his short contract scheduled to expire later in 2026.

Diop has now officially become a Knoxville player, with the move completed on 1 September.
