Leeds United and Middle East clubs tracking FC Porto defender Zaidu Sanusi

Zaidu Sanusi’s future at FC Porto is attracting interest ahead of the winter transfer window, with Leeds United among the clubs monitoring the Nigeria international.

Several Saudi Arabian and Qatari sides have also requested information about the 29-year-old left-back, according to Footy-Africa. However, Sanusi’s preference is reportedly unchanged: he wants to remain at FC Porto.

Sanusi joined the Portuguese club in 2020 after leaving Santa Clara and has continued to be linked with a move away during recent transfer windows. Aliyu Ibrahim, who is close to the player, said Leeds United had shown particularly strong interest in his situation.

Despite that attention, Sanusi is understood to favour continuing his career with FC Porto, where he has played since his move from Santa Clara.

Contract talks under way

The defender’s current contract with FC Porto is due to expire in June 2027. The club has reportedly opened discussions with his representatives over an extension, with the Portuguese side keen to avoid losing him without receiving a transfer fee.

Those negotiations could play an important role in determining Sanusi’s next move. The player’s decision is expected to depend partly on the terms offered by FC Porto and the proposals made by his potential suitors.

Sanusi was also the subject of interest from Al Qadisiya, the Saudi Pro League club, during the summer transfer window, according to exclusive information reported by Africafoot.

His estimated market value is €3m, based on figures from Transfermarkt. This season, he has made 10 appearances in all competitions, totalling 622 minutes.

FC Porto are due to face Vitoria Guimaraes in their next match, in the 11th round of the Portuguese league.
