The controversy surrounding the organization of the 2022 World Cup by Qatar continues to persist. Amidst strong criticism directed at the Asian nation over the working conditions of stadium construction workers, another Asian country has stepped forward to offer to host the event.
In situations of conflict where two parties struggle to find common ground, it’s often a third party that determines the outcome. Japan has volunteered to host the 2022 World Cup in place of Qatar, aiming to alleviate criticism.
“If FIFA seeks an alternative host, we have stadiums capable of meeting the World Cup criteria,” stated Kuniya Daini, president of the Japanese federation. “With the 2020 Olympic Games already on our agenda, hosting the World Cup would be an additional honor. However, the likelihood of us being selected remains uncertain.”
