Lamine Ndiaye hails 'fully deserved' Algerian Cup triumph

USM Alger coach Lamine Ndiaye has praised his players for their resilience and commitment following a hard-fought Algerian Cup triumph over CR Belouizdad.

Ndiaye and his charges claimed the title with a 2-1 win over fierce rivals CR Belouizdad in a gripping final, capping off an intense domestic journey with silverware.

The result not only secured bragging rights but also underlined the team’s ability to deliver on the big stage.

Speaking after the match, Ndiaye did not hide his satisfaction. “Our players have made tremendous efforts in recent weeks and they deserve to win the Algerian Cup,” he said, highlighting the determination and sacrifices that fueled the team’s success.

The triumph carries historic weight. It marks the 10th Algerian Cup title for USM Alger, allowing them to surpass CR Belouizdad’s tally of nine and further cement their status among the country’s elite clubs. Even more impressively, it is their second consecutive Cup victory, confirming their dominance in domestic knockout football.

However, Ndiaye was quick to shift focus to the next challenge, with an even bigger test looming on the continental stage. USM Alger are set to face Zamalek SC in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup—a clash that promises high intensity and continental prestige.

“We have another important date in a few days,” Ndiaye noted, fully aware of the magnitude of the upcoming showdown. “We have gone through difficult periods this season, and now we must handle the pressure of this decisive stage with responsibility.”

The Senegalese tactician also revealed plans to rotate his squad in the coming days, aiming to keep his players fresh while maintaining the team’s competitive edge. With a packed schedule and high expectations, squad management could prove crucial in determining the outcome of their continental ambitions.

The Confederation Cup final will be played over two legs, with the first encounter set to take place in Algeria on May 9, before the decisive return leg at Cairo Stadium on May 16. The timing leaves little room for rest, adding another layer of complexity to USM Alger’s preparations.

For Ndiaye and his players, the Cup triumph is both a reward and a springboard. With confidence high and momentum on their side, USM Alger now turn their attention to conquering Africa—aiming to transform a successful domestic season into a historic continental double.
