Unai Emery reached his 200th Premier League match as a manager as Aston Villa faced Manchester United at Old Trafford in the 10th round of the competition.
The milestone marks another significant stage in the Spanish coach’s growing record in English football, with Emery continuing to establish himself among the most notable managers in Premier League history.
According to statistics provider Squawka, Emery became only the fifth Spanish manager to take charge of 200 Premier League matches.
He joined an exclusive group featuring Rafael Benitez, Roberto Martinez, Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta.
Emery’s landmark came during Aston Villa’s visit to Manchester United, with the match taking place at one of the Premier League’s most recognisable stadiums.
The fixture also came as Aston Villa sat eighth in the league table after 10 matches, with 15 points. Manchester United were 19th, having collected seven points from their opening 10 games.
Arsenal led the standings on 27 points, followed by Brighton on 22 and Manchester City on 21. Liverpool occupied fourth place with 18 points, while Chelsea were fifth on 16.
Emery’s achievement places him alongside four other Spanish managers who have reached the same total in the English top flight. Benitez, Martinez, Guardiola and Arteta had previously set the benchmark for managers from Spain, before Emery added his name to the list.
The Aston Villa manager’s 200th Premier League appearance therefore represented both a personal milestone and a rare achievement for Spanish coaches in the competition.
