Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry will be a guest at Saturday’s Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.
Henry will watch the two South African giants meet in one of the country’s most significant sporting rivalries, Premiership sponsors Betway confirmed.
The former Arsenal forward will also meet the winner of Betway’s S’bonise & Win campaign and present the prize to the successful supporter. The initiative recognises fans who display their allegiance through their team colours and regalia.
“Henry will join fans at FNB Stadium as the Soweto giants go head to head in one of South Africa’s most celebrated sporting rivalries,” Betway said in a statement.
His visit coincides with the Premier Soccer League’s celebration of 30 years of South African football through its ’96-’26 commemorative campaign.
That has given added significance to a fixture already regarded as one of the highlights of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership calendar.
Henry, who won the World Cup with France in 1998, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to have featured in the English Premiership.
He spent seven years with Arsenal between 1999 and 2006, establishing himself as one of the club’s most celebrated players.
The statement from Betway quoted Henry as saying he was looking forward to experiencing the match in person.
“I’ve experienced some incredible football rivalries around the world, and I know how much the Soweto Derby means to supporters in South Africa,” he said.
“I’m excited to experience that atmosphere at FNB Stadium and to meet some of the fans who make the occasion what it is.”
