Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital after collapsing during training last week because of a meningeal irritation.
The Belgian was taken to hospital on Friday after becoming unwell during a second training session. He had been suffering from a virus in the days leading up to the incident and had missed some of Bayern’s training.
Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, confirmed Kompany’s discharge before Wednesday’s German Cup match against Magdeburg.
“Given the circumstances, he’s doing well,” Eberl told ARD. “He was discharged from the hospital today. That is the biggest and best news for all of us.”
Eberl said the condition had caused Kompany’s collapse and that the 39-year-old would now focus on his recovery.
“It’s a meningeal irritation that caused this incident on Friday,” he added. “He will now rest and take medication, and I am certain that he will very soon be back on the touchline, operating at 100%.”
No timetable has been set for Kompany’s return to the Bayern dugout. Eberl said the former Belgium international would resume his duties only after receiving medical clearance.
Kompany’s assistant, Aaron Danks, has overseen the team since the incident. He was in charge for Bayern’s 3-1 victory at Freiburg.
Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga, face title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
