Sporting CP close in on Issa Doumbia as Venezia talks advance
Sporting CP are moving closer to an agreement with Venezia FC over the transfer of midfielder Issa Doumbia, with discussions expected to intensify at a key meeting scheduled in Milan on Monday.
According to journalist Nicolò Schira, representatives from both clubs are set to meet as negotiations accelerate over a deal that could see the Ivorian-born midfielder switch to Portugal ahead of the summer transfer window.
Doumbia, who has emerged as one of the standout performers in Serie A this season, is understood to be very close to agreeing a move to Sporting CP, with personal terms already said to be in place.
The main sticking point remains the transfer fee. Venezia are reportedly holding out for around €25 million including bonuses, while Sporting CP are preparing an offer in the region of €18–20 million.
Despite the gap in valuation, sources suggest talks are progressing positively, with both sides keen to find a resolution given the player’s clear desire to make the move.
Doumbia has already given his approval for the transfer and is expected to sign a long-term contract running until 2031 if the deal is completed.
The 22-year-old is said to view Sporting CP as an important step in his development, particularly with the opportunity to compete in European competitions, including the UEFA Champions League.
However, his rise in Italy has also attracted attention from the Premier League, where several clubs are monitoring his situation closely.
Teams including Everton, Newcastle United, and Brentford are reportedly interested, while Bournemouth are also believed to be tracking his progress, according to reports in A Bola.
Despite that growing interest from England, Sporting CP remain confident of securing his signature, given the advanced stage of negotiations and the player’s preference for the Lisbon-based club.
Doumbia remains under contract with Venezia until June 2029, and his current valuation is estimated at around €8 million on Transfermarkt.
With discussions continuing and a decisive meeting planned, the coming days could prove crucial in determining whether the midfielder’s future lies in Italy, Portugal, or elsewhere in Europe.
