Serhou Guirassy is expected to miss Guinea’s upcoming matches after Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac confirmed the striker is suffering from a muscle strain.
Guirassy will not be available for Dortmund’s Bundesliga meeting with Elversberg in the ninth week of the season.
“Guirassy has a muscle strain and will not be able to play tomorrow,” Kovac said at his pre-match news conference.
The Dortmund manager added that the club remained in contact with the Guinea Football Federation over the striker’s condition.
“We will see how things develop over the next few days. We are also in contact with the Guinea federation,” he said.
Kovac was then asked whether Guirassy would join up with his national team during the international break. The Croatia manager indicated that the forward was unlikely to travel, although a final decision has not yet been made.
“It seems that he will not be able to travel,” Kovac said. “We will discuss this later, and we hope he will be available again after the international break. We will see exactly when that will be.”
Guinea are preparing to face Eritrea twice in the third and fourth rounds of the African qualifying competition for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The fixtures will take place during the November international break, with Guinea in Group D alongside South Africa, Kenya and Eritrea.
Only one team from the group will qualify for the competition. Kenya are among the three countries hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in June 2027.
