Habib Beye confirms triple injury boost for Marseille before Rennes showdown
Marseille coach Habib Beye has received a timely boost ahead of his side’s final Ligue 1 fixture of the season after confirming the return of several important players, including Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
OM will host Rennes at the Stade Vélodrome on Sunday evening in a decisive Matchday 34 encounter, with the club still battling to secure a European qualification place.
Marseille currently sit sixth in the Ligue 1 standings, a position that would grant continental football next season, although it remains below the expectations set at the beginning of the campaign.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Senegalese coach Habib Beye provided an update on the squad situation and revealed that Aubameyang, along with Weah and Nadir, will be available again for selection.
“We have Weah and Nadir back, and you know the long-term absentees: Egan-Riley, Kondogbia, and Aguerd. Aubameyang will also be available.
Aubameyang only missed the trip to Le Havre, as did Nadir and Weah, who have been absent for three and two matches respectively,” Beye explained.
The return of Aubameyang is particularly significant for Marseille as the experienced forward remains one of the club’s key attacking figures.
His absence in the recent away match against Le Havre was felt, especially during a period when OM have struggled to maintain consistency in results.
Weah and Nadir also strengthen Beye’s options at a crucial stage of the season. Their return offers greater depth to a squad that has been affected by injuries in recent weeks.
However, Marseille will still be without several long-term absentees, including Egan-Riley, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd.
Beye, who took charge amid growing pressure around Marseille’s campaign, knows the importance of ending the season strongly in front of the home supporters.
Although sixth place currently secures European qualification, OM remain eager to finish the campaign on a positive note after falling short of their initial ambitions.
Sunday’s meeting against Rennes is expected to be closely contested, with both sides aiming to close the Ligue 1 season positively.
For Marseille, the return of experienced players such as Aubameyang could prove decisive as they seek to avoid further disappointment in a turbulent season.
The Stade Vélodrome is expected to provide a charged atmosphere for the final league game, with supporters hoping their team can secure the result needed to preserve European football for next season.
