Senegal: Guédiawaye FC confirms supporters can attend Ligue 1 clash with Jaraaf

Guédiawaye FC has announced that supporters will be permitted to attend Sunday’s Ligue 1 fixture against ASC Jaraaf, scheduled for 14 December at 16:30 GMT at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium.

The confirmation follows the release of minutes from the Disciplinary Committee, which initially outlined sanctions directed at the club.

Guédiawaye FC responded by filing an immediate appeal, a step that, under existing regulations, automatically suspends the enforcement of the original ruling.

As a result, the committee’s initial decision remains on hold, allowing the match to proceed with spectators in the stands.

In a statement to its fanbase, the club emphasised that the location of Sunday’s encounter has no relation to the disciplinary process.

Officials explained that staging the fixture at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium is part of an ongoing measure adopted by the League at the beginning of the season to accommodate games expected to draw significant crowds.

The suburban derby between Guédiawaye and Jaraaf is among the fixtures traditionally attracting high attendance, prompting its placement at a venue suited to host large numbers.

Guédiawaye FC reiterated that the appeal mechanism ensures fairness when disciplinary decisions are contested, underscoring that the club remains in compliance with league regulations while awaiting the outcome of the appeal.

For supporters, the announcement provides clarity after days of uncertainty concerning whether they would be allowed to attend one of the season’s most anticipated matches.

The club also encouraged fans to adhere to guidelines in place for matches of this scale and expressed appreciation for their continued support during a period marked by administrative challenges.

With the disciplinary decision temporarily suspended, attention now shifts fully to the match itself, which carries considerable interest among followers of Senegalese domestic football.

Sunday’s fixture is expected to draw a sizeable crowd as both sides prepare for an encounter significant not only in league standings but also in local rivalry.

The confirmation that fans can attend brings an end to speculation and sets the stage for a vibrant atmosphere at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium.
