Samu Costa bids farewell to Mallorca as Al Nassr camp arrival in Portugal nears

Portuguese midfielder Samu Costa has said goodbye to his Real Mallorca team-mates and is expected to join Al Nassr’s training camp in Portugal within days, according to reports in Saudi Arabia.

Al Nassr are understood to be close to completing the signing of the 25-year-old, who is set to become the Saudi Pro League club’s first addition of the current summer transfer window.

Costa is being brought in as a direct replacement for Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, who left Al Nassr at the end of last season.

Saudi newspaper Ar-Riyadiyah reports that Costa has already completed his move to the Riyadh club and has taken leave of the Mallorca dressing room ahead of his departure.

The midfielder will link up with Al Nassr’s pre-season preparations in Portugal, where he is scheduled to begin work under Australian coach Ange Postecoglou as the team build towards the new campaign.

Costa to be Al Nassr’s first summer signing

Al Nassr have yet to register any incoming transfers in this window, with financial difficulties cited as a key factor behind the lack of activity.

The deal for Costa is therefore poised to be the club’s first piece of business of the summer as they seek to strengthen their squad following Brozovic’s exit.

Costa, who has built his reputation in Spanish football, joined Almeria in 2020 and spent three seasons there before moving to Real Mallorca, where he has been playing up to this point.

Spanish stint and Portugal role

The majority of Costa’s professional career has unfolded in Spain’s top divisions. His performances for Almeria between 2020 and 2023 earned him a move to Real Mallorca, consolidating his status as a dependable central midfielder in La Liga.

On the international stage, Costa began his senior journey with Portugal alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in October 2024. Since then, he has made seven appearances for the national team.

He was included in Portugal’s squad for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. However, his involvement at the tournament was limited to a single substitute appearance.

Costa came off the bench for 20 minutes in Portugal’s goalless draw with Colombia in the third round of group-stage fixtures, his only outing at the competition.

No details have yet emerged about the length of Costa’s contract with Al Nassr or the financial terms of the agreement, but his imminent arrival at the club’s Portuguese camp will mark the beginning of his first experience in Saudi football.
