Roma join Premier League giants in race for PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye

Roma have entered a fierce battle with several of Europe’s biggest clubs to sign highly rated Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye, in a move that could reach €30m and include a buy-back clause for the French champions.

The 19-year-old Senegal international, regarded as one of the brightest prospects to emerge from PSG’s academy in recent years, is increasingly expected to leave the Parc des Princes this summer in search of regular first-team football.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Roma have turned their attention to Mbaye after failing to land Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville, and are now pushing to lure the player to the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma prepare €25m–€30m offer

Roma are reported to be studying a deal worth between €25m and €30m for Mbaye, whose current contract with PSG runs until June 2028.

Crucially, the Serie A side are said to be open to including a priority buy-back clause in favour of PSG. That clause is expected to be set between €35m and €40m, giving the French club the right to bring Mbaye back should he flourish in Italy.

Such a structure would allow Roma to sign a promising attacking reinforcement at a fixed price, while enabling PSG to retain long-term control over one of their most talented academy graduates.

For Mbaye, a transfer could offer a significantly clearer pathway to regular minutes at senior level than at star-studded PSG, where competition for attacking places remains intense.

Premier League clubs and Dortmund also monitoring

Roma are not alone in their pursuit. Mbaye is also being closely followed by several major European clubs, underlining his rising stock on the transfer market.

Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund are all monitoring the winger’s situation, according to the same reports. Their interest reflects a broader recognition of Mbaye’s potential and room for development at the elite level.

The scale of that interest is likely to strengthen PSG’s resolve to avoid losing him outright without a mechanism to bring him back in future.

PSG weighing risk of losing academy jewel

Inside PSG, there is an awareness that Mbaye represents one of the standout hopes from the club’s youth system. While a departure this summer is increasingly viewed as plausible, the French champions are keen not to repeat past mistakes in allowing academy products to leave with no realistic way of returning.

A sale with a buy-back clause is therefore being considered as a possible compromise. It would provide PSG with a substantial transfer fee now, give Mbaye the platform to accelerate his development elsewhere, and still leave the door open for a reunion if he fulfils his promise.

Mbaye’s market value is estimated at around €30m, in line with the figures discussed for a transfer. At PSG, he currently earns approximately €910,000 per year (about 591.5m CFA francs).

With his contract tied up until 2028 and several heavyweight suitors circling, the coming weeks are expected to be decisive for Mbaye’s future.

PSG must now decide whether Roma’s proposal – or any rival bid – provides the right balance between immediate financial gain and safeguarding the long-term future of a player whose potential “ne laisse personne indifferent” – leaves nobody indifferent.

As the summer window progresses, Mbaye’s case is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched youth transfer sagas in European football.
