Red Arrows coach urges players to ignore Kaizer Chiefs’ reputation

Red Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe says his side must put Kaizer Chiefs’ name out of their minds when the teams meet in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Zambian club reached the second preliminary round after defeating FC Rouge of Madagascar 4-0 on aggregate.

They now face South African side Kaizer Chiefs, with the winners guaranteed a place in the competition’s group stage.

Mbewe says Red Arrows will focus on competing rather than being intimidated by their opponents’ status.

“I think for us to be the best, we need to compete with the best,” he told the club’s media.

“And again, going into this game, we need to remove the name that we are playing Kaizer Chiefs.

“We are going to compete and ensure that we fight and progress to the good stage of the confederation.”

The first legs of the second preliminary round are scheduled for the weekend of 16–18 October, with the return fixtures taking place from 23–25 October.

Victory over Kaizer Chiefs would take Red Arrows into the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
