Real Madrid close in on Bayern star Michael Olise after Mbappe intervention

Real Madrid are moving closer to a blockbuster summer signing as Bayern Munich and France star Michael Olise pushes for a move to the Bernabeu after being personally convinced by Kylian Mbappe, according to reports in France and Germany.

The 24-year-old winger, who lit up the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, is now regarded as a prime transfer target for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez as the Spanish giants seek to rebuild a squad that has gone two seasons without a major title.

World Cup standout turns Los Blancos target

Olise, born in London and now a full France international, was one of the standout performers at the 2026 World Cup, finishing the tournament with the highest number of assists – seven in total.

That came on the back of a remarkable season with Bayern Munich, where he scored 22 goals and set up 31 more in 52 matches in all competitions, figures that have hugely impressed Real Madrid’s hierarchy.

Olise’s interest in the move has been heavily influenced by France captain Kylian Mbappe, who is set to spearhead Real Madrid’s new era and is said to have played a decisive role in persuading his international team-mate.

According to Foot Mercato, joining Real would allow Olise to reunite with Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni, with whom he formed close bonds during France’s 2026 World Cup campaign.

German newspaper Bild reports that Olise has already shared his wish to join Real Madrid with his France team-mates and that he “قدر كلمات قايد الديوك” – appreciated the words of the national team captain – who spent the tournament lobbying on Madrid’s behalf.

Bild adds that throughout the competition Mbappe’s “هدف … كان اقناع صديقه بالانضمام الى ريال مدريد” – his objective was to convince his friend to join Real Madrid. The forward also reassured Olise of Real’s strong interest and painted a glowing picture of life in the Spanish capital, “من المطاعم الى المناخ” – from the restaurants to the climate.

The pitch appears to have worked. The article states that Mbappe’s “خطاب يبدو انه قد اقنع مايكل اوليسي تماما” – speech seems to have completely convinced Michael Olise – and that Mbappe has even informed Real president Perez of the “positive signals” coming from his compatriot.

Doubts over Bayern’s Champions League prospects

Beyond Mbappe’s intervention, Olise is also understood to harbour concerns about Bayern Munich’s ability to compete for the Champions League in the coming seasons.

Olise is now expected to hold direct talks with Bayern’s management to clarify the club’s sporting project and their strategy to remain genuinely competitive in the Champions League in the years ahead.
