Raphael Onyedika transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt moves closer after Club Brugge agreement

Raphael Onyedika is set to leave Club Brugge for Eintracht Frankfurt after the two clubs reached a final agreement over the Nigeria midfielder’s transfer.

The deal is understood to be worth €9m, with additional financial bonuses included, according to Florian Plettenberg. All parties have been informed that the move is nearing completion, with Onyedika expected to undergo a medical within the next 48 hours before signing a contract with the Bundesliga club until 2031.

Onyedika was absent when Club Brugge played Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian Super Cup, further indicating that his departure was imminent. The 25-year-old midfielder had been involved in prolonged discussions over his future, but the Belgian champions and Eintracht Frankfurt have now settled the main terms of the transfer.

The move fulfils a long-standing recruitment plan for Eintracht Frankfurt, who have followed Onyedika for several months. Interest from Saudi Arabia had also emerged recently, as reported exclusively by Africafoot, but the Nigeria international is instead set to continue his career in Germany.

A source at FC Ebedei, the club where Onyedika began his football development, told Footy-Africa that the transfer was now practically complete.

Onyedika’s contract with Club Brugge was due to run until June 2027. Transfermarkt values the player, who is described as 24 in the same report, at €23m. His annual salary is reported to be €677,851, equivalent to 440,603,150 FCFA.

The midfielder joined Club Brugge after developing at FC Ebedei and has established himself as an important player in the Belgian side’s midfield. His impending move will bring an end to his spell with the Blauw-Zwart, despite the remaining length of his existing contract.

Club Brugge are due to begin their Belgian league campaign against KV Kortrijk shortly. Betting company 1xBet lists Club Brugge as firm favourites for that fixture, offering odds of 1.25 for a home win, 5.50 for a draw and 9.00 for a Kortrijk victory.

Onyedika’s medical and the signing of his long-term contract are the remaining formal steps before the transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt can be officially confirmed.
