Qatari side Al-Shamal has reached an agreement in principle to sign Egyptian midfielder Akram Tawfik from Al-Ahly Cairo.
The 27-year-old, whose contract with Al-Ahly ends on June 30, 2025, will join Al-Shamal as a free agent next summer.
The deal, finalised through a pre-contract signed online, will see Tawfik commit to Al-Shamal for three seasons. The midfielder’s salary package totals $3.7 million, structured as $1 million in the first season, $1.2 million in the second, and $1.5 million in the third.
Tawfik’s decision to leave Al-Ahly stems from unsuccessful contract renewal negotiations. The player demanded a salary comparable to the club’s top earners—30 million Egyptian pounds annually—but Al-Ahly offered only 14 million. This financial impasse made Tawfik’s departure inevitable.
A product of ENPPI, Tawfik joined Al-Ahly in 2016. After two seasons with the U21 team, he was promoted to the senior squad in 2018. During his tenure, he made 126 appearances, scoring three goals and providing seven assists. Tawfik was also loaned to El Gouna twice. This season, he has featured in 14 matches across all competitions, clocking 1,044 minutes and recording one assist.
Tawfik’s move to Al-Shamal marks a significant milestone in his career as he transitions from Egyptian football to the Qatari league, bringing his experience and skills to the Gulf region
