South African tactician Pitso Mosimane has emerged as a leading candidate for the vacant Mali national team coaching role following the departure of head coach Tom Saintfiet.

The West African side is currently searching for a new manager after Saintfiet stepped down, opening the door for several high-profile names to be considered for the position.

Mosimane has been unattached since leaving Iranian club Esteghlal FC in January 2025, a move reportedly influenced by financial disagreements.

Since then, the experienced coach has focused on his Pitso Mosimane Youth Football project while keeping an eye on his next professional challenge.

Despite his current commitments, Mosimane continues to attract attention across the continent and beyond. He was recently linked with the Ghana national team job before the Black Stars appointed Carlos Queiroz.

According to reports from Kooora, the 61-year-old is among a shortlist being considered by the Malian football authorities, which also includes French coach Hervé Renard and former Morocco boss Walid Regragui.

Mosimane has recently confirmed that he has received multiple offers.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach remains one of Africa’s most decorated managers, with a strong international résumé that includes experience with Bafana Bafana and success at club level across the continent.

It remains to be seen whether Mali will move for Mosimane as they look to stabilise their national team setup.
