André Onana is reportedly set to leave Manchester United once again, with the Cameroon international expected to rejoin Trabzonspor on a season-long loan without an option to make the move permanent.

The goalkeeper’s future appears increasingly likely to be away from Old Trafford as preparations continue for the new season.

After spending much of the previous campaign on loan at the Turkish club, Onana is now reportedly closing in on a return following renewed interest from Trabzonspor.

The move comes after Trabzonspor accelerated their pursuit of the 30-year-old following the departure of veteran goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.

Manchester United are also understood to have agreed to the proposed arrangement, which would see Onana return to Turkey on another temporary deal.

Manchester United agree new loan move for Onana

Manchester United are expected to sanction another loan move for the Cameroon goalkeeper as the club continues to assess his long-term future.

Trabzonspor revive their interest in the Cameroon goalkeeper

Onana reportedly spent most of last season with Trabzonspor after enduring a difficult spell at Manchester United.

During his time in Turkey, he made 33 appearances and helped the club secure a domestic cup triumph.

Following the end of the campaign, the goalkeeper had initially considered returning to England in an attempt to fight for a place in the Manchester United squad.

However, Trabzonspor’s decision to step up their efforts to bring him back has reportedly changed the situation, with a fresh loan agreement now expected to be completed.

Loan deal will not include a purchase option

Although Onana is set to return to Turkey, the proposed agreement reportedly does not include a clause allowing Trabzonspor to sign him permanently at the end of the loan.

Manchester United continue to seek permanent transfer

According to reports, the Premier League club would still receive financial compensation for the temporary move despite the absence of a purchase option.

Manchester United signed Onana for £47 million in the summer of 2023 and are understood to favour a permanent sale in the future.

In the meantime, another loan spell would allow the club to reduce its wage bill while maintaining the possibility of securing a permanent transfer next summer.

The arrangement would also provide Onana with another opportunity to continue playing regular first-team football after his previous season with the Turkish side.

Goalkeeping plans continue to evolve at Old Trafford

Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation is also expected to change as the club plans for the new campaign.

Club assessing alternatives ahead of new season

Reports suggest Michael Carrick is satisfied with Senne Lammens, while Altay Bayindir’s expected departure has prompted Manchester United’s staff to examine other goalkeeping options.

Karl Darlow is among the names being considered, while Angus Gunn has also emerged as a possible target after becoming a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Nottingham Forest.

As Manchester United continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season, Onana’s expected return to Trabzonspor would represent another significant step in the club’s efforts to redefine its goalkeeping department while keeping open the possibility of a permanent move in the future.
