Michael Olise scored twice and provided an assist as Bayern Munich beat Magdeburg 6-1 to move ahead of Harry Kane at the top of the club’s scoring charts this season.
The France international opened the scoring after 10 minutes at the Allianz Arena in Wednesday evening’s German Cup second-round tie, meeting a cross from Moroccan forward Ismael Saibari.
Olise then restored Bayern’s four-goal advantage from the penalty spot in the 50th minute, completing his second goal of the match as the Bundesliga side secured a commanding victory.
His brace took his total for Bayern Munich to 12 goals in all competitions since the start of the current campaign. According to French statistics outlet Stats Foot, that moved him beyond Kane, who has scored 10 times.
Kane won the Ballon d’Or on Monday, but it is Olise who currently leads Bayern’s scoring list. The Frenchman has also become the Bundesliga’s most prolific player across all competitions since the season began.
Olise was involved in another goal before half-time, setting up Saibari for Bayern’s second in the 21st minute. The assist also lifted him into the leading group for goal contributions by players representing clubs and national teams in Europe’s major leagues.
Olise has now contributed to 24 goals, with 16 goals and eight assists. That puts him level with Kane, whose figures are identical: 16 goals and eight assists.
Only Lamine Yamal has produced more goal contributions during the period. The Barcelona and Spain forward leads the standings with 25, having scored 14 goals and supplied 11 assists.
The result saw Bayern Munich maintain their progress in the German Cup while Olise continued a prolific run since joining the club. His performance against Magdeburg combined decisive finishing with creativity, allowing him to overtake Kane in one ranking and match him in another.
The victory came at the Allianz Arena in the second round of the competition, with Bayern scoring six times and conceding once against Magdeburg.
