Conflicting reports emerge over Paris Saint-Germain interest in Ibrahim Maza

Paris Saint-Germain do not plan to make a January move for Bayer Leverkusen and Algeria midfielder Ibrahim Maza, despite his impressive form and reported interest from several clubs.

French broadcaster RMC Sport says the Ligue 1 club has no intention of submitting an offer for the 20-year-old during the winter transfer window and is not currently preparing an approach.

That position comes after a serious injury to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia raised questions over whether Paris Saint-Germain might revise their plans and seek attacking reinforcements in January.

However, manager Luis Enrique suggested before the match against Olympique Lyon that the injury would not automatically force the club into the transfer market. Paris Saint-Germain won that Ligue 1 game 2-0 in the eighth round of the competition.

“There is no injury that justifies the need to sign new players,” said the Spanish manager. “I said at the beginning of the season that we could cope with two or three important players being injured and unavailable.”

He added: “But it is clear that we remain attentive to every opportunity to sign a new player if we see that we genuinely need one. It is always our responsibility to monitor the opportunities available during the transfer window.”

Godts provides an internal option

According to RMC Sport, Paris Saint-Germain are instead relying on Mika Godts to contribute in attack following Kvaratskhelia’s absence. Godts scored his first goal for the club against Olympique Lyon on Monday.

The report says there is no clear plan at present to sign an attacking player specifically as cover for the Georgia winger.

Maza has made an impressive start to the season with Bayer Leverkusen, scoring three goals and providing three assists in 10 appearances. Nevertheless, that form is not expected to persuade Paris Saint-Germain to pursue a deal in January.

RMC Sport adds that the club could consider signing a young player with significant potential and a relatively modest market valuation if it decides to strengthen during the winter window. Such a move would not necessarily involve an attacking position.

There are, however, differing reports over the extent of Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in Maza.

Sky Germany says the club’s attention goes beyond speculation and reports that Paris Saint-Germain have “shown concrete interest” in the 20-year-old. The player’s representatives are also understood to be aware of that interest.

The contrasting reports leave Maza’s position uncertain, but RMC Sport’s information indicates that a January transfer to Paris Saint-Germain is not currently being pursued.
