Nuno Santos: Mamelodi Sundowns win over Al-Ahli was ‘just another day’

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Nuno Santos described the club’s 2-1 victory over Al-Ahli as “just another day” after his two goals secured the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup.

The African champions defeated the Asian champions at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon, with Santos scoring twice with well-placed headers.

Santos said Sundowns had prepared carefully for the match but also believed their opponents would have been concerned about facing them.

“We knew it was going to be a big game for us, but we also knew we are capable of to everything, we have already proven that before, today is just another day and we keep going, we want more,” Santos told SuperSport after the game.

The Portugal-born midfielder said Sundowns’ preparation involved analysing every opponent, while maintaining confidence in their own ability.

“We study all the teams. We did see a lot of things from them but we trust so much in ourselves that whoever we play against, they have to be worried about us as well.”

Santos also explained that his goals reflected his willingness to attack dangerous areas inside the penalty area.

“I like to be in those types of positions on the pitch,” he said.

“I’m player that likes to play but also likes to score goals and whenever I get the chance to be there, I’m going to be there today it was great that the ball arrived and I’m very happy about that.”
