Bayer Leverkusen is preparing to part ways with Nigerian striker Victor Boniface at the end of the season, despite his key role in the club’s Bundesliga-winning campaign.
The 23-year-old forward, who was instrumental in Leverkusen’s success, no longer appears to be in manager Xabi Alonso’s long-term plans.
Boniface was close to leaving the club in January when Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr tabled a €70 million bid.
However, the transfer collapsed after the Saudi outfit chose to sign Colombian forward Jhon Durán instead. Since then, the Nigerian international has struggled for regular playing time, often finding himself on the bench.
Although he managed to score twice in the weeks following the failed move, his overall form has dipped.
According to German outlet Sport Bild, Leverkusen is now open to offers in the region of €50 million for Boniface, a significant reduction from the fee Al-Nassr was willing to pay earlier in the year.
Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Newcastle United, are reportedly monitoring his situation and could move for the striker during the summer transfer window.
With interest growing from England, Boniface’s time at Leverkusen appears to be nearing its conclusion. If a deal materializes, the Nigerian forward could be set for a new challenge in one of Europe’s top leagues.
