Tolu Arokodare set to leave Wolves

Nigeria international Tolu Arokodare is expected to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

According to reports, Wolves are open to temporarily offloading the Nigerian striker just one year after completing a major transfer for him from Belgian side KRC Genk.

Arokodare arrived at Molineux last summer in a deal worth approximately €24 million, with high expectations that he would provide firepower and physical presence in the Premier League. However, his first season in England has failed to live up to those hopes, with the forward struggling for consistency and goals.

The 24-year-old managed just three goals in 28 Premier League appearances, a return that ultimately reflected Wolves’ broader struggles in a difficult campaign that ended in relegation. Despite flashes of promise, Arokodare was unable to fully establish himself as a reliable attacking option in a side that often lacked creativity and cutting edge in the final third.

Wolves’ relegation has triggered a major reassessment of the squad, with financial pressure and squad restructuring expected to dominate the summer transfer window. As part of that rebuild, several high-profile players, including recent signings, are now being considered for potential exits.

Arokodare’s situation is particularly notable given the size of the investment made just a year ago. The striker was seen as a long-term project when he arrived from Genk, where he had built a reputation as a strong, physical forward capable of leading the line and contributing goals in European competition.

However, the transition to the Premier League proved challenging. Limited service, tactical inconsistency, and the pressure of a relegation battle all contributed to a difficult debut season for the Nigerian international.

Despite his struggles, Wolves are not believed to be closing the door on his long-term future entirely. Instead, a loan move is being considered as a way for the striker to regain confidence, regular minutes, and goal-scoring form away from the intense pressure of a promotion push in the Championship.

Clubs in Europe and potentially elsewhere are expected to monitor his situation closely, with Arokodare still viewed as a player with significant potential due to his physical profile, age, and previous performances in Belgium.

For Wolves, the decision reflects the harsh reality of relegation, where even recent signings with high transfer fees can quickly become part of a wider financial and sporting reset. The club’s immediate priority will be stabilising the squad while also balancing wages and squad depth ahead of a demanding Championship campaign.

For Arokodare, the coming weeks could prove decisive in shaping the next stage of his career. A temporary move away from Molineux may offer the opportunity to rebuild confidence and rediscover the form that convinced Wolves to invest heavily in his signature.

As the summer window approaches, his future now hangs in the balance — caught between a Premier League setback and the possibility of a fresh start elsewhere.
