Nabil Kouki sacked by CS Sfaxien after controversial accusations

Nabil Kouki has been dismissed by CS Sfaxien following a fresh defeat and a series of controversial post-match allegations aimed at coaches, sporting directors and media figures.

The Tunisian club’s management made the decision after a 1-0 loss to Al-Taqaddum Sportif de Sakiet Eddaier in the fifth round of the Tunisian league, according to the Tunisian newspaper Al-Sabah.

CS Sfaxien had been due to train on Sunday morning, but the session was cancelled after the club informed Kouki that he had been sacked. Reports suggest that comments made by the coach at his post-match news conference contributed to the timing of the decision.

Kouki accused unnamed individuals of paying for media campaigns against him and spreading what he described as false reports about the club’s poor results. He claimed those efforts were intended either to force him to leave or to pressure the board into dismissing him.

“There are people paying money to attack me and spread false news about the crisis surrounding the results,” Kouki said.

“The coach pays money, the sporting director pays money, and the journalists who appear on sports programmes receive money to promote these reports and serve their narrow interests.”

The former CS Sfaxien manager said he was aware of what was happening behind the scenes and believed the situation had gone beyond acceptable limits. He also said he had been the target of media campaigns for some time.

His remarks prompted widespread reaction across Tunisia’s sporting community, with calls for him to be held accountable for the accusations he made.

Local reports have also suggested that Kouki could be summoned to give evidence about the claims. No further details have been provided about any potential investigation.

The defeat by Al-Taqaddum Sportif de Sakiet Eddaier was CS Sfaxien’s latest setback in the Tunisian league and brought an uncertain end to Kouki’s time in charge.
