Zamalek send Mahmoud Taher get-well message before Al Ahly derby

Zamalek have offered their support to former Al Ahly president Mahmoud Taher before Sunday’s Egyptian Premier League meeting between the Cairo rivals.

The club’s board, led by Hussein Labib, issued a statement wishing Taher a speedy recovery after he suffered a health problem. The message was published on Sunday, just hours before the eagerly anticipated match.

“Zamalek Club’s board wishes engineer Mahmoud Taher, the former president of Al Ahly, a speedy recovery,” the club said in a post on its official X account.

Zamalek’s gesture came separately from the points at stake in the derby, which will be played at Cairo International Stadium in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Both teams go into the fixture with 13 points, with Pyramids above them at the top of the table.

Al Ahly’s board, chaired by Mahmoud El Khatib, had issued its own statement on Saturday expressing support for Taher, who served as the club’s president from March 2014 until December 2017.
