Morocco international Abdelhamid Sabiri seals Eyupspor move after Fiorentina exit

Eyupspor have confirmed the signing of Morocco international Abdelhamid Sabiri on a two-year contract, completing the move after negotiations with the attacking midfielder advanced in recent days.

The Turkish club announced the transfer on its social media channels, confirming earlier reports from Africafoot that Eyupspor had made concrete progress in its pursuit of the 28-year-old.

Sabiri was a free agent after his contract with Fiorentina ended and had been considering several options before deciding to continue his career in Turkey’s Super Lig. Africafoot reported shortly before Eyupspor’s official announcement that the player had rejected an offer from Samsunspor, with talks with Eyupspor at the most advanced stage.

The Istanbul-based club subsequently finalised the deal and secured Sabiri’s signature. The move gives the Morocco international an opportunity to rebuild his career after a difficult campaign in which he struggled for playing time.

Sabiri spent last season on loan at Al Taawoun but made only one brief appearance, playing 40 minutes in official competition. That limited involvement significantly disrupted his progress and left him seeking a fresh start.

The midfielder has won 11 caps for Morocco and remains one of the players who contributed to the Atlas Lions’ historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Morocco became the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals during that tournament.

A regular role at Eyupspor could help Sabiri regain his rhythm and place himself back in contention for a return to the national team. His new contract comes after he officially became available to sign for another club on 1 July 2026, following the expiry of his Fiorentina agreement.

Born in Goulmima and developed in Germany, Sabiri began his senior career with RWF Erfurt before also representing Bad Vilbel, TuS Koblenz, Darmstadt and Sportfreunde Siegen. He later spent time with the youth teams of Nuremberg before moving to England to join Huddersfield Town.

His next club was SC Paderborn, while his performances for Ascoli in Italy helped establish him at a higher level. Sabiri subsequently played for Sampdoria and Fiorentina, continuing a career that has included spells in several European leagues as well as loan moves in the Middle East.

Fiorentina sent him out on loan to Sampdoria, Al Fayha, Ajman Club and, most recently, Al Taawoun. The conclusion of his time in Florence left him free to choose his next destination, with Eyupspor now providing the latest chapter in his club career.

The Turkish side will hope Sabiri can recapture the form that earned him international recognition and make a sustained impact in the Super Lig after a season in which his opportunities were severely limited.
