Mohamed Amoura: Wolfsburg forward set for Benfica medical as talks gather pace

Benfica are making significant progress in their attempt to sign Algeria international Mohamed Amoura, with the 26-year-old reportedly close to joining the Portuguese club.

The Eagles are looking to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer window closes and have advanced discussions for the VfL Wolfsburg forward. Negotiations between the relevant parties are understood to be moving in a positive direction, although no agreement has yet been formally announced.

Amoura’s potential move could also benefit Union Saint-Gilloise. According to Voetbalkrant, the Belgian club are entitled to 15% of any profit made from a future transfer involving their former player.

A medical examination for Amoura is reportedly scheduled for next Thursday, suggesting the deal may be approaching its final stages. However, details of the contract he could sign with Benfica have not yet emerged, including its proposed length.

Amoura remains under contract with VfL Wolfsburg until 30 June 2029. His current market valuation is listed at 20m euros by Transfermarkt, although the financial terms of any potential agreement with Benfica have not been disclosed.

If the negotiations are completed successfully, Amoura would soon begin a new chapter in his career by playing in another league with Benfica. The Algeria international currently earns an annual salary of 4,720,000 euros equivalent to 3,068,000,000 CFA francs in Germany.

The proposed move would take Amoura away from VfL Wolfsburg despite the remaining years on his contract and would see Benfica add an Algeria international to their attacking department ahead of the closing of the transfer market.

For Union Saint-Gilloise, the transfer could provide a financial return through the clause included in the agreement covering their former player. The Belgian side would receive 15% of the capital gain generated by any deal involving Amoura.

At present, the length of the possible Benfica contract remains unknown, and the transfer has not been confirmed. The positive progress in talks and the reported medical appointment, however, indicate that the Portuguese club are pushing to complete the signing.
