Tensions rise at Marseille as Beye and Abdelli clash after draw
Tensions escalated within Olympique de Marseille following their 1-1 draw against OGC Nice, with reports of a heated exchange between coach Habib Beye and midfielder Himad Abdelli.
The result, considered a setback in Marseille’s pursuit of a Champions League place, reportedly led to a charged atmosphere in the dressing room after the final whistle.
According to reports, frustration that had already been visible in post-match media duties continued behind closed doors.
Speaking publicly after the game, Beye had pointed to the performance of his substitutes, suggesting they had not met the demands of the occasion.
“We can always complain, but when you come into a match like this, you have to do it at the level (…) of the importance of the match. And that wasn’t the case for us at the end.”
However, the situation is said to have intensified once the squad returned to the dressing room. Several players reportedly voiced their dissatisfaction with the outcome, reflecting the growing pressure surrounding the team’s ambitions in the closing stages of the season.
The most significant moment involved Abdelli, who had already faced criticism for his role in the sequence leading to Nice’s penalty.
During the internal discussion, Beye is said to have reiterated concerns about the substitutes’ impact, prompting a direct reaction from the Algerian midfielder.
“Don’t talk to me like that, you’re not my father, I wasn’t the only one who came on.”
The exchange reportedly required intervention from other members of the squad to prevent further escalation.
The incident has been described as a reflection of the tense environment within the club, where expectations remain high and results are under close scrutiny.
The atmosphere contrasts with earlier criticism from Medhi Benatia, who had questioned the team’s level of commitment.
While a reaction has now emerged, it appears to have come in a more confrontational manner than anticipated.
With only a limited number of fixtures remaining, Marseille’s position remains under pressure.
The internal dynamics revealed in the aftermath of this match could prove significant as the club approaches a decisive phase in its campaign.
