Yankuba Minteh signals Liverpool preference as Brighton weigh fresh approach

Liverpool are preparing a third offer for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh after the Gambia international made it clear that he wants to join the Reds this summer.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Minteh and his representatives have told Brighton that they would like the proposed transfer to go through. The 22-year-old is understood to be pushing for a move to Anfield, a position which could influence the next stage of negotiations between the two clubs.

Liverpool have already made two bids for the player, but Brighton rejected both. The latest proposal was reportedly worth €69m (£59.5m), although the Seagulls considered that figure below their valuation of the winger.

A third offer is now being prepared by Liverpool and could arrive in the coming days. The Merseyside club hope Minteh’s preference will help them make progress in talks with Brighton and bring the transfer closer to completion.

Minteh joined Brighton from Newcastle United in 2024 and quickly established himself as one of the club’s most promising attacking players. He primarily operates on the right wing and also gained valuable experience during a loan spell at Feyenoord.

The winger remains under contract with Brighton until 30 June 2029. Transfermarkt currently values him at €45m, although Liverpool’s previous offer was reportedly significantly higher than that figure.

Minteh is currently injured and is expected to be unavailable for several weeks. Despite the setback, Liverpool remain determined to secure his signature and continue to see him as a player who can strengthen their attack.

The Gambian is reported to earn an annual salary of €2,467,296 in England, equivalent to 1,603,742,400 CFA francs.

Brighton are due to begin their English league campaign against Aston Villa. For that fixture, betting company 1xBet lists Brighton as the favourites, with odds of 2.20 for a home victory. A draw is priced at 3.65, while Aston Villa are offered at 3.10.

The immediate focus for Brighton will therefore be their opening match and Minteh’s recovery from injury, while the club also considers whether Liverpool’s expected third proposal will meet its financial demands. Liverpool, meanwhile, will be encouraged by the player’s reported desire to make the move and are expected to continue pursuing an agreement.
