Mamelodi Sundowns edge past Marumo Gallants to reach Carling Knockout quarter-finals

Mamelodi Sundowns responded to their CAF Champions League disappointment with a narrow 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at Loftus Versfeld, securing their place in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals.

Siyanda Ndlovu scored the decisive goal in the 20th minute, converting an opportunity created by Iqraam Rayners. The finish was enough to defeat last season’s finalists.

Miguel Cardoso made several changes to his starting XI, but Sundowns were forced to protect their narrow advantage after the interval.

Marumo Gallants pressed for an equaliser in the second half, yet Masandawana held on to complete the win and ease some of the frustration surrounding their CAF Champions League heartbreak.

Sundowns will discover their quarter-final opponents when the draw takes place on Wednesday.
