According to his former Manchester United teammates, the Portuguese star would often take on the role of teacher, dedicating his free time to training in order to improve and eventually best them, particularly irritated by losses in their casual table tennis matches.
Even with years of experience under his belt, CR7’s attitude towards defeat remains unchanged. Raphael Varane, who has shared the field with Cristiano Ronaldo since joining Real Madrid in 2011, acknowledges that the two-time Ballon d’Or winner is driven by an intense competitive spirit, which sometimes amuses his teammates. Varane reveals, “Cristiano Ronaldo is a lively character, friendly, always focused on self-improvement. He strives to excel in everything! Losing bothers him immensely; he simply can’t tolerate it! It’s true that occasionally, in the locker room, we enjoy teasing him by deliberately making him lose just to see his reaction… (laughs),” shared the French international defender about Cristiano Ronaldo on Canal+.
