Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has taken a swipe at Egyptian international Mohammed Salah following recent comment about his future at the club.
Salah sparked a widespread controversy after inspiring the club to snatch an important away victory over Southampton.
The former African Footballer of the Year winner bagged a brace as Liverpool inflicted a 3-2 victory over their opponent at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday.
Salah, whose contract expires at the end of the season disclosed in an interview after game that, he is yet to receive a contract extension offer from the English giants.
And Carragher speaking to Sky Sports condemned Salah’s approach towards contract issues at the club,
“I’m very disappointed with Salah because of that interview he gave yesterday after the game,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“Liverpool play Real Madrid in midweek, they play Manchester City next week, that’s the story of Liverpool now.
“If he keeps making those comments, or his agent keeps sending vague tweets, that’s selfish and shows he’s thinking about himself and not the club.
“The most important thing for Liverpool now is not the future of Salah, Van Dijk or Arnold, but winning the Premier League, that’s more important than those players.
“He’s got the fans’ love and my love, they’re in talks, that’s part of football, I would say Salah is in the top five Liverpool players of all time.
“I would say Steven Gerrard, Dalglish, Graham Souness, Ian Rush and then Mohamed Salah, that’s how much I appreciate him, but it’s not about giving someone what they want.”
“What I would like to say is that I hope that Salah and people in his situation, like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, don’t feel that this club will collapse if they decide to leave,” he said.
“We will miss Salah if he decides to leave, of course, but I can assure you that Liverpool will move on after that”
