Allegri’s Napoli begin home campaign as 1.40 favourites against Como

Napoli will look to make it two wins from two in Serie A when they host Como at the Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday, 30 August 2026.

The hosts are priced at 1.40 for the match after opening the season with a 2-0 victory at Genoa, while Como began their campaign with a 1-1 draw at Udinese.

Mahamad Sangare, presenter of the sports debate programme La VAR on Burkina info TV, has assessed the contest and identified Napoli as the more likely winners, although he expects a closely fought game.

Napoli are now managed by Massimiliano Allegri following Antonio Conte’s departure, and their early-season form has strengthened their position as favourites. Como, coached by Cesc Fabregas, have shown they can be difficult opponents and will travel to Naples hoping to take at least a point.

The match is the second round of Serie A, with Napoli aiming to maintain their perfect start in front of their own supporters.

Napoli seeking another strong start

Napoli had to wait until after half-time to find their rhythm against Genoa, but eventually secured a convincing away win. Kevin De Bruyne helped provide the decisive moment before Antonio Vergara added the second goal.

The result offered early evidence that Allegri’s side already possess a degree of defensive and tactical stability despite the change in management. Their pre-season also included a 6-2 win against Aris, a 2-1 victory over Osasuna and a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo.

Como’s opening-day draw was less emphatic, but it represented a positive beginning against Udinese. Their preparation included several encouraging results against high-profile opposition.

They drew 0-0 with Liverpool, 1-1 with Arsenal and 2-2 with Paris FC. Como also lost 2-0 to Liverpool in another pre-season fixture.

Injury concerns

Napoli have more defensive doubts heading into the game.

Pasquale Mazzocchi is uncertain because of an overload in his knee, while Luca Marianucci is unavailable after suffering a significant injury to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

Alessandro Buongiorno also remains out with a knee problem. Sam Beukema is nearing a return, but his involvement against Como has yet to be confirmed. David Neres, who is also continuing his recovery, could potentially return to the squad.

Como will be without Jayden Addai because of injury. Paolo Farago is a doubt because of a physical problem whose precise nature has not been specified.

Napoli are therefore more affected in defence, although a number of players returning from injury could be available before Sunday’s fixture.

Recent meetings favour a tight contest

The recent record between the clubs points to an evenly balanced and often low-scoring rivalry.

Across the past five competitive meetings, Napoli have won once, Como have won once and the other three matches have ended in draws.

Their most recent encounter, on 2 May 2026, finished 0-0 in Como. Earlier that season, in February 2026, the sides drew 1-1 in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals before Como progressed on penalties.

The previous Serie A meeting in Naples, on 1 November 2025, also ended goalless. Before that, Como recorded a surprise 2-1 home win on 23 February 2025, while Napoli had won the first meeting of that campaign 3-1 at home on 4 October 2024.

Both sides are considered attacking teams, but neither has been especially prolific in front of goal. Sangare’s preferred selection is therefore fewer than four goals in the match, although the assessment notes that two goals would be enough to reach the relevant line and that both teams have the attacking quality to produce them.

A Napoli defeat appears unlikely given their home advantage and opening-day victory, making a result in favour of the hosts a more cautious option than backing them to win outright.

The risk remains significant, particularly because both teams may begin with extra caution. However, a narrow Napoli victory is viewed as realistic, with 2-1 suggested as a possible scoreline. Napoli’s experience and attacking efficiency could ultimately prove decisive.
