The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has terminated the contract of former Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, according to reports.
The decision comes just weeks before the crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Nigeria, slated for next month.
Sredojevic was appointed as the Libya national team’s head coach in October 2023 on a deal that was set to expire in June 2026.
However, the LFF’s patience has worn thin following the team’s disappointing start to the AFCON qualifying campaign.
Libya currently sits at the bottom of Group D with just one point after a 1-1 draw at home against Rwanda and a 2-1 defeat to Benin away.
The Mediterranean Knights had hoped to secure vital points in their upcoming matches against Nigeria to revive their chances of qualifying for the continental tournament.
Sredojevic’s dismissal has come as a major blow to the Libyan football fraternity, especially considering his impressive track record.
He played a total of 11 matches as head coach of Libya, won 6, drew 3, and lost twice.
During his time at Orlando Pirates, he guided the South African giants to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League in 2006 and two league runners-up finishes.
He also led Uganda to their first AFCON finals in 38 years in 2017.
The LFF is now tasked with finding a suitable replacement for Sredojevic ahead of the crucial double-header against Nigeria.
