Lens face Marseille test as contrasting Ligue 1 fortunes set up Bollaert clash

RC Lens will host Olympique de Marseille at Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Sunday, 8 November 2026, with the two sides arriving at the end of Ligue 1’s 10th matchday in sharply contrasting form.

Lens are ninth after consecutive defeats by Lille in the northern derby and Como in the Champions League. The 1-9 loss to Como was a historic humiliation, leaving Yannick Cahuzac’s side under pressure to respond in front of their home supporters.

Marseille, meanwhile, are sixth and just two points outside the top four. Bruno Genesio’s team have won their past four league matches and followed victories over Le Havre (4-3) and Toulouse (2-0) with a 1-0 success at Leverkusen in the Europa League.

Mahamad Sangare, presenter of the sports debate programme La VAR on Burkina info TV, has given his assessment and prediction for the match.

Form and team news

Lens had won three successive league games before their recent setbacks. They lost 1-0 to Lille before suffering their heavy European defeat against Como on Wednesday, and now return to Stade Bollaert four days later seeking a reaction against an in-form Marseille side.

The hosts are not expected to welcome back any injured players. Nawrocki and Ganioui remain unavailable, while forwards Sima, who has one goal and one assist in Ligue 1, and Edouard, who has scored once in the league, are still recovering.

Ivanovic, who has scored twice in 11 appearances in all competitions, is doubtful after taking a knock in the Champions League. Cahuzac otherwise has an almost complete squad, including former Marseille players Cuisance and Florian Thauvin.

Thauvin has contributed to 11 league goals this season and is Lens’ main attacking threat. His experience and ability to create decisive moments could prove important against his former club.

Marseille will be without reserve defender Cornelius for several more matches. Left-back Emerson is also a doubt after being injured against Toulouse. Harit, who has scored three goals, is expected to return to the squad after being rested in the Europa League.

Amine Gouiri has been decisive in each of Marseille’s past three matches. He scored the final goal against Toulouse before securing victory at Leverkusen, and has six goals and three assists in Ligue 1.

Head-to-head and betting angles

Lens have the better record across the past five seasons, with six wins compared with Marseille’s four. The hosts have won three of their past four home meetings, including a 2-1 victory in 2025-2026.

The recommended selection is a Marseille win at 3.01, with a suggested correct score of 1-2 at 9.5. Gouiri is priced at 2.30 to score, while more than 7.5 corners is listed at 1.26.

Other listed options are more than 2.5 goals at 1.474, both teams to score at 1.40 and Lens to score more than one goal at 1.24. The odds may change.
