Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard scored 18 minutes from time to secure a 1-0 victory over Hull City at Emirates Stadium and extend the Premier League leaders’ advantage to six points.
The Gunners struggled to break down their opponents for much of the match, but Odegaard produced the decisive moment to give Mikel Arteta’s side a fifth successive league win.
Arsenal’s only dropped points this season came in September, when they were beaten 3-0 by Brighton. They have now responded with five consecutive victories in the league.
The hosts had opportunities to take control before the interval. Declan Rice’s header was kept out by Hull City goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, while Noni Madueke was also unable to find the net after going close from a tight angle.
Arsenal were involved in another key incident in the first half when Kai Havertz went down in the penalty area after his shirt was pulled.
Referee Farai Hallam initially waved play on, but the Video Assistant Referee instructed him to review the incident on the pitchside monitor. Hallam subsequently told the crowd that Havertz had been fouled, but confirmed that Arsenal would not receive a penalty because the forward had been in an offside position.
With the match still goalless late on, Odegaard finally provided the breakthrough, ensuring Arsenal maintained their position at the top of the standings and continued their winning run.
