Kaizer Chiefs Ladies target strong finish to debut Gauteng SAFA League season

Kaizer Chiefs Ladies are determined to end their debut Gauteng SAFA Provincial League campaign strongly, centre-back Nelisiwe Mchunu says.

Chiefs have two matches left in the 2026 season. They host Mamelodi 11 Stars Ladies at the Village on Sunday before concluding their campaign against University of Johannesburg Ladies.

The Amakhosazana are second in the table with 64 points from 26 matches, level with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

Mchunu says Chiefs have prepared carefully for their final home fixture and are focused on taking maximum points.

“We honestly prepare well for each game, so we have prepared accordingly to make sure that we wrap up the league on a high. We are currently number two on the log, it has been a great debut season,” she told SABC Sport.

“We are facing Mamelodi 11 this Sunday. It is a home game, we have a plan and have studied the team – we want maximum points. And if you have seen us play at home, you know what to expect.”

Chiefs’ strong position has been built on the squad’s willingness to work for one another and improve during the season.

“We have worked very hard to be where we are, relying on each other’s strengths and improving in each game,” Mchunu said.

She also praised the experience and preparation of the technical team, saying their analysis and planning had helped the players maintain a high level of performance.

“As you know, we have a very experienced and hardworking technical team. They have analysed most teams accurately and they gave us a solid game plan for each and every match,” Mchunu added.

“Plus, we have players who play as a unit. We play for each other and have remained consistent throughout the season.”

Promotion to top-flight football is now within reach, and Mchunu hopes the team can achieve that objective after receiving strong backing from their supporters during their first campaign.

“We hope so. Even though it’s challenging, by God’s grace and with the hard work we’ve put in from the technical team and players, we hope we do,” she said.

“We’ve had massive support from everyone, especially the fans showing up to each and every game, and we are grateful. The one thing we can do for them is make sure we finish the league on a high.”
