Beier’s superb strike sends Borussia Dortmund top of Bundesliga

Maximilian Beier’s outstanding finish earned Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt and lifted them to the Bundesliga summit on Saturday.

Dortmund have collected 17 points from seven matches and lead second-placed Bayern Munich by three points. Bayern, who have a game in hand, play at Freiburg on Sunday.

The hosts had struggled to break down Frankfurt until Beier received the ball on the edge of the penalty area. He created room for a shot before curling it into the far corner.

The victory ended Dortmund’s run of consecutive draws and marked another clean sheet for a team that has conceded only four goals this season.

Cardoso scores twice for Leipzig

RB Leipzig produced an emphatic 4-0 victory over promoted Elversberg, scoring three times in a dominant second-half performance.

Romulo Cardoso struck twice, while Tidiam Gomis and Christoph Baumgartner also found the net. Baumgartner was making his first Bundesliga appearance of the season after recovering from injury.

Elversberg have performed well during their first season in the top flight but were comfortably beaten by Leipzig.

Werder Bremen moved up to sixth place after winning 3-2 away at Mainz, with two Niclas Fullkrug penalties inside the opening 25 minutes putting the visitors in complete control.

Mainz reduced the deficit before Ludovit Reis restored Bremen’s two-goal advantage. The hosts scored again, but Bremen held on to secure the points.

Fullkrug now has eight goals this season and leads the Bundesliga scoring charts after finding the net in each of his past six league matches.

Philippe decides meeting with parent club

Rayan Philippe scored two minutes from full-time as Paderborn beat Hamburg 1-0 at home to move out of the bottom three.

Philippe joined Paderborn on loan from Hamburg this season and came on as a substitute against his parent club. He did not celebrate the goal, despite its importance to his side.

Augsburg and Union Berlin shared a 1-1 draw in a match that featured one goal and one red card for each team.

Both sides were reduced to 10 players before the opening goal. Felix Uduokhai was sent off for Union, while Augsburg’s Juma Bah also received a red card.

Han-Noah Massengo put the home side ahead in the 71st minute, but their lead lasted only three minutes before Janik Haberer equalised for the visitors.

Cologne and Schalke drew 0-0, a result that left Schalke in the bottom three.
